B.O.S. Better On-line Solutions Releases e-Twin@x Controller™ Model II and Enhanced Software

The new version, now shipping, features hot backup, Linux support, and e-Mail for dumb Twinax terminals

San Diego, CA (COMMON) and Scottsdale, AZ, March 9, 2000 - B.O.S. Better On-line Solutions (the "Company" or "BOS") (Nasdaq:BOSC) today announced that it is now shipping a new version of its e-Twin@x Controller™, a complete hardware and software solution that provides a secure, encrypted connection to the AS/400 over the Internet or WAN and empowers local or remote Twinax networks to support TCP/IP. The new version, "Model II", features new hardware that supports 10/100 Mbit Ethernet, a 3x faster CPU, twice the memory, and less power consumption than the previous model.

New software provided with the version offers a "hot backup" feature for use with the modem dial-out connection to ISPs. The feature allows two modems to work in parallel, so that in case of a lost connection the user will not experience any delays or disconnection, since the second modem will continue to function. "The hot backup feature not only guarantees improved uptime," claims Martin Pladgeman, V.P. BOS U.S., "it also enhances speed, since it permits connection to different ISPs, allowing the data to be processed by the line providing the faster connection speed for any given packet." The hot backup feature is compatible with the current "Model I" of the e-Twin@x Controller, but requires a software upgrade for the unit's SECURIT-e Server™.

Basic e-mail functionality, known as "TwinMail™", is now supported on dumb Twinax terminals using BOS' Java SECURIT-e Server™. It can be run on the AS/400, or any Windows or Linux operating system. In addition to sending and receiving e-mail, TwinMail includes a personal address book that can be organized according to user-defined preferences. BOS now provides a special package for simple installation of the SECURIT-e Server on Linux-based computers. BOS' HTTP configurator, used to administer the controller remotely via a Web browser, is also supported for Linux OS.
