Press Release: BOScom Shipping New Release of e-Twin@xTM Software

Release 3.02 adds failover feature and Windows SECURIT-e ServerTM

Teradion, Israel, Dec 2, 2002 - BOScom, a subsidiary of B.O.S. Better On-line Solutions, announces Release 3.02 of its e-Twin@xTM software. Now shipping for both the e-Twin@xTM and e-TwinSt@rTM Controller series, Release 3.02 adds a new system failover feature as well as a new version of the BOScom SECURIT-e ServerTM for Windows NT/2000/XP.

BOScom’s e-Twin@x Controller is a complete hardware and software solution that provides a secure, encrypted connection to the IBM eServer iSeries (AS/400) over the Internet or WAN, and empowers local or remote Twinax networks to be supported over TCP/IP. The e-TwinSt@r series features an adapter allowing direct connection of Twinax devices running over CAT5 (twisted pair) cabling.

"The new failover feature is yet another tool we have developed to ensure maximum uptime for our customers," notes Martin Pladgeman, President of BOScom US. "We know that our controllers are used increasingly to support mission-critical operations, and this feature allows better auto-recovery if the primary network or system fails."

"The new Windows version of our SECURIT-e Server, which deciphers encrypted information sent to the AS/400, consumes less RAM and can be installed as an NT Service in the more popular platform," Pladgeman adds.

New Failover Feature

In case of a main system failure, the new failover feature automatically connects all active sessions to the back-up iSeries system that was pre-defined during configuration. In case of a network failure, the sessions can be reconnected to the same iSeries system with a different IP Address (also pre-defined during configuration) via an alternative ISP or via the site’s own redundant circuits.

New SECURIT-e Server for Windows

The new SECURIT-e Server for Windows NT/2000/XP improves on the current version by:
  • Consuming less RAM
  • Featuring a password-protected HTTP interface
  • Handling many e-Twin@x Controllers simultaneously without response degradation
  • Featuring on-line configuration
  • Including better diagnostic capabilities
  • Enabling installation as an NT Service

Other Release 3.02 Enhancements

Other enhancements include:
  • Support for TRB (Turkish) and AGI (Austrian/German) keyboards
  • Support for assignment of terminal code page (CCSID) for 3477-compatible terminals
  • Support for additional printer features, including wide-page printout, graphic character set and code page for IPDS printers, and Data transform program and Library parameters for SCS printers.

Distribution and Availability

All new Controllers are shipping with the updated software. Current users of BOScom e-Twin@x and e-Twinst@r Controllers who are under service agreement may obtain Release 3.02 at no additional cost from the extensive network of BOScom subsidiaries, distributors, and value-added resellers (VARs).
